Dr. Klint Kendrick has spent the last decade helping companies overcome this staggering statistic by focusing on how people, leadership, and culture drive M&A deal value.
Klint is Chair of the HR M&A Roundtable and author of The HR Practitioners Guide to Mergers & Acquisitions Due Diligence. He has worked on nearly 100 merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, representing billions of dollars and affecting thousands of employees.
Long before taking HR M&A leadership roles with several Fortune 500 firms, Klint was part of several acquired companies. One deal was so poorly managed that he resigned and took a million-dollar book of business with him. A few years later, as an HR manager at a different firm, he had to react when panicked employees called him after learning about a deal in their newsfeeds instead of company communications.
These early experiences demonstrate how mismanaged deals can not only harm employees and their families but have a direct financial impact on the acquirer.
When not treated well, crucial employees flee, taking critical knowledge and business relationships with them. They leave behind vacant roles and unhappy customers. This, in turn, destroys deal value and helps explain why 80% of all deals fail.
Klint’s passion for doing this work well caused him to seek out peers with similar experiences so he could exchange ideas and validate assumptions. This network transformed into the HR M&A Roundtable, an organization providing events and resources that support HR M&A professionals. In addition to monthly roundtable meetings, the Roundtable hosts nine regional roundtable chapters, professional training, time-saving toolkits, and produces a world-class annual conference.

Brendan McElroy is the Executive Director of the HR M&A Roundtable. He is an HR M&A junkie who loves to research, facilitate, and speak about improving the employee experience. Brendan had the chance to cultivate this passion when he developed an M&A cultural assessment in 2019 as a research intern.
He has since been promoted to Executive Director, supporting the HR M&A community by organizing events and co-creating resources like the due diligence toolkit. Additionally, he supports the M&A community by providing cutting edge research and consulting services.
Brendan earned a master’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. In his spare time, he cheers for his favorite teams, the Minnesota Wild and New York Yankees, and analyzes sports statistics to dominate his competitive fantasy sports leagues.
